Teaching Methodology
Students explore scientific concepts through guided inquiry and hands-on experiments. Every key concept is introduced with a demonstration or activity that makes abstract ideas tangible.
Claim-Evidence-Reasoning approach to answering open-ended questions. Students learn to make a claim, support it with evidence from the question or experiment, and explain the scientific reasoning.
Visual concept maps connecting related topics across themes. Helps students see the big picture — for example, how the concept of 'energy' connects Heat, Electricity, and Light topics.
Regular practice with PSLE-style MCQ and open-ended questions. Emphasis on common misconceptions, tricky question types (comparison, fair test, explanation), and precise answer phrasing.

Why is Science introduced at P3?
MOE introduces Science at P3 to allow students to develop core literacy and numeracy skills first. At P3, students are developmentally ready to engage in scientific inquiry. Our P3/P4 programme focuses on building curiosity and foundational knowledge, while P5/P6 emphasises exam preparation and application skills.
How do I help my child answer open-ended Science questions correctly?
The key is teaching the CER framework: Claim (answer the question directly), Evidence (cite data or information from the question), Reasoning (explain the scientific concept). Many students lose marks because they write vague or incomplete answers. Our programme drills this structure until it becomes automatic.
Do you conduct hands-on experiments?
Yes! We believe Science must be experienced, not just read. Every major topic includes at least one hands-on experiment or demonstration. For example, students build simple circuits for Electricity, observe plant parts under microscopes, and conduct fair test experiments.
Exam Tips
- 1For open-ended questions, always use scientific vocabulary — write 'the plant wilts due to excessive loss of water through transpiration', not 'the plant dies'
- 2In experiment-based questions, identify the changed variable, measured variable, and controlled variables
- 3For comparison questions, state both similarities AND differences, then give a reason
- 4Use the data provided in the question — reference specific numbers, observations, or results to support your answer
- 5Beware of common misconceptions: heavier objects do NOT always sink, a larger battery does NOT make a bulb brighter, and plants do NOT only respire at night
