Frequently Asked Questions

Should my child take Standard or Higher Chinese?

Higher Chinese is recommended for students who show aptitude in the language and enjoy reading Chinese texts. It provides a stronger foundation and can be advantageous for secondary school admission. We assess each student's ability and help parents make an informed decision.

How do you make Chinese interesting for students who dislike the language?

We use engaging materials like comics, short videos, and culturally relevant content. Lessons are interactive with games, group activities, and competitions. The key is building small successes — every student progresses at their own pace and gains confidence gradually.

How much oral practice do students get?

Every lesson includes dedicated oral practice time. Students take turns reading aloud and describing pictures. We conduct mock oral exams every term to familiarise students with the PSLE format.

Exam Tips

  • 1Read the picture carefully — identify the main event (起因, 经过, 结果) before writing your composition
  • 2For oral conversation, use the 5W1H technique: Who, What, When, Where, Why, How
  • 3Learn 10–15 idiomatic expressions (成语) and practise using them contextually in writing
  • 4In comprehension, pay attention to transition words (但是, 因此, 然后) to follow the passage logic
  • 5Practise writing neatly and legibly — marks can be deducted for unclear handwriting in Paper 1
